HAM Spirit Contest - it's just out of this world

Dear friends!

On September 25, 2024, the WW Committee announced the cancellation of the previous decision to restrict Russian and Belarusian radio amateurs from receiving awards for participation and winning prizes in competitions sponsored by CQ magazine.

We understand the importance of this statement, we accept it as a victory of justice for radio amateurs of the entire planet Earth and the Amateur Radio Code declared by Paul M. Segal, W9EEA (1928).

In response to this development, the HAM Spirit Contest committee has decided to revise the regulations and reschedule the contest in 2024 to a later date, now set for November 30 to December 1.

The updated regulations introduce a new method for making QSOs (contacts) with operators worldwide, emphasizing versatility in equipment and techniques. Participants will earn more points based on the variety of bands and modulation types they use for their QSOs. This incentivizes operators to explore and utilize different frequencies and modes of communication. There are no longer restrictions on the number of band changes, and self-spotting is allowed. It will even allow operators working in single-band categories to switch from band to band and change the mode of modulation, with the condition that points are counted only for one of the six bands and a specific type of modulation at their discretion, according to the chosen category.

The new regulations are designed to leverage modern technological advancements in amateur radio, ultimately attracting a larger pool of participants. The framework is expected to draw more interest from radio amateurs, encouraging participation and enhancing the competition experience. This regulation change hopes to create a more engaging and rewarding contest environment, fostering a higher level of activity among radio amateurs.

Best regards,
Chairman of the HAM Spirit Contest committee
Anatoly RC9O
